7 Days Rift Valley Explore
Day 1: NAIROBI – KIGIO From Nairobi, drive for 2-3 hours to Kigio Wildlife Conservancy. Lunch at Malewa Wildlife Lodge and afternoon game drive. Kigio is a private Conservancy that has been recognized internationally for their conservation efforts and is habitat for the endangered Rothschild giraffe, buffalo, eland, leopard among others. There are also several species of birds to see. Night game drives can be arranged on prior request. Overnight at Malewa Wildlife Lodge. Day 2: KIGIO Morning nature walk along the Malewa river and the plains. This is a chance for us to gain deeper insights into the plants and animals of this beautiful area. Our naturalist will explain about the birds, plants and wildlife of the area. Those of us not interested in nature walks can do cycling and fishing. Later we do a game drive for the rest of the day. Overnight at Malewa Wildlife Lodge. Day 3: KIGIO-MENENGAI CRATER Leave after breakfast for a drive to Maili Saba Camp at Nakuru. The camp is located on the edge of the magnificent Menengai crater. After lunch we take a two hour nature walk to the crater rim. Overnight at the camp. Day 4: LAKE NAKURU Leave after breakfast for a drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for a whole day of game drives. This small park has a soda lake that is home to millions of pink flamingos. There are also several other wildlife such as lion, giraffe, waterbuck and the white rhino. We return to the camp in the evening for dinner and overnight. Day 5: KEMBU Leave after breakfast for a short drive to Kembu on the western wall of the Great Rift Valley. We take a walk around the expansive farm and visit the dairy, racehorses and general area of the farm. We’ll also visit a women’s co-operative knitting project on the farm and the local primary school. You are free to make voluntary donations for the school or buy some of the products from the women’s knitting project. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Kembu cottages. Day 6: KERICHO Leave after breakfast for a two hour drive through the agriculturally rich Rift Valley to the ‘Tea belt’ at Kericho. Lunch at Tea Hotel and afternoon tour of the tea farms. We’ll sample farm fresh tea and learn about tea growing and processing. We spend the night at Tea Hotel. Day 7: NAIROBI Depart after breakfast for transfer back to Nairobi.
