Northern Nomad: 7 Days Wildlife And Camel Trekking

Camel TrekkingDay 1: SAMBURU

From Nairobi we drive through agricultural country to Mt Kenya where we take lunch followed by a 3-4 hour drive further north to the Samburu Game Reserve arriving in time for a late afternoon game drive. We have dinner and camp overnight by the river.

Today we take game drives all day. The Samburu Game Reserve lies in the semi-arid north and is habitat to some rare and endemic animal species such as Gerenuk, Grevy zebra and Beisa Oryx.  It's the home of the famous lioness, Kamuniak, who adopted a baby Oryx.  Dinner and overnight bush camp

We take a morning game drive as we leave the Reserve for a 6 hour drive further north through Archers post and Wamba to Maralal. This will be the base for our camel trekking safari. Stay overnight at Yare Camel Club.

Days 4, 5 & 6: MARALAL

Camel riding and trekking in the Maralal Game Sanctuary. Led by our local Samburu guides, we trek through scrub and bush where it is possible to see zebra, gazelle, ostrich and sometimes elephant. Trekking and riding are normally done in the morning when it is not too hot. The afternoons can be really hot in this semi-arid environment. You can visit a local Samburu village to learn about the culture and everyday activities. We return to Yare Club on Day 6 in the late morning.
