Primate Safari Uganda 12 Days

Meet the primates of Uganda! From the chimp island you will travel for an unforgettable encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas, followed by some relaxing moments on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Spend a full day in Queen Elizabeth National Park where you go in search of lions and elephants, and find the wild chimpanzees in their natural habitat in Kibale Forest.

PrimateDay 1: Arrival

You will be welcomed by a representative of our company who will transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. Overnight at Boma Guesthouse (B&B).

Day 2: Ngamba Island

A visit to the island of the chimpanzees! Travel by boat to Ngamba Island where you are able to learn about the life of the chimps and view them from only a few meters away. In the afternoon return to Kampala for overnight at Cassia Lodge. (B-L)

Day 3: Kampala - Bwindi National Park

Very early in the morning we leave Kampala for a long journey towards the western part of Uganda. As we drive through the verdant countryside, you will pass traditional homesteads and have panoramic views of the surroundings. In Bwindi dinner and overnight at Lake Kitandara Tented Camp. (B-L-D)

Day 4: Gorilla tracking

The highlight of your primate safari: a meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi! Expect to walk a long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will definitely be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest. A unique and unforgettable experience! Dinner and overnight at Lake Kitandara Tented Camp. (B-L-D)

Day 5: Bwindi National Park - Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast we leave Bwindi and transfer to the "Lake of the small birds". Relax, take a swim or go for a canoe trip while you watch the beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight at Bunyonyi Overland Camp. (B-L-D)

Day 6: Lake Bunyonyi - Queen Elizabeth National Park

On our way to Queen Elizabeth National Park you will pass the southern sector of the park, known for the tree-climbing lions. While we continue to our accommodation in the middle of the park you might spot some wildlife like kobs and warthogs. Dinner and overnight at Kingfisher Kichwamba Lodge. (B-L-D)

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast we will go for a hike in the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve in search of the chimpanzees. It is a beautiful walk through the river valley, completely covered with tropical rainforest. In the afternoon we take on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, which gives you the opportunity to enjoy some more of the African wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Kingfisher Kichwamba Lodge. Day 8: Queen Elizabeth National Park - Kibale Forest

The day begins early as we head for the mating ground of the Uganda kobs. We also look out for lions, elephants and other wild animals in their natural habitat. After this morning game drive we  continue to Fort Portal, a lovely town in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, and then proceed to Kibale National Park for a stay within the tropical forest. Dinner and overnight at the cottages of Primate Lodge Kibale. (B-L-D)

Day 9: Kibale Forest National Park & Bigodi Swamp

Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, redtailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others. After lunch we transfer to the Bigodi Swamp which is initiated through the local community and is famous for the many species of birds and primates. Dinner and overnight at the cottages of Primate Lodge Kibale. (B-L-D)

Day 10: Kibale Forest - Kampala

After breakfast we drive back to Kampala with lunch en route. Look out for the black-and white-colobus monkeys which are hiding along the road. Arrival in Kampala in the afternoon and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Cassia Lodge. (B-L)

Day 11: Kampala - Jinja - Kampala

Today we will visit the genuine origin of the mighty river Nile with a short walk in Mabira Forest. In Jinja we visit the Source of the Nile and the magnificent Bujagali Falls. Those who want to experience some adventure can decide to go rafting for a half or full day (not included). Late in the afternoon transfer back to Kampala for overnight at Cassia Lodge. (B-L)

Day 12: Departure

Enriched with an experience of a lifetime and unforgettable memories you will say goodbye to the Pearl of Africa. Depending on the time of departure you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home. We are looking forward to seeing you again! (B)
