Nairobi National Park

Nairobi is the safari capital of Africa. About 20 minutes drive from the airport is 113 square kms of savannah plains and bush that form the Nairobi National Park. Here, you can watch and photograph rhino, lion, leopard, giraffe, buffalo and several other wildlife species roaming the plains right in the heart of Nairobi city, with high rise office buildings in the background.

A 3-4 hour tour of the main streets, parliament buildings, railway museum, National museums of Kenya, Maasai market

Karen Blixen Museum & Giraffe Centre

About 20 km from Nairobi city centre are the Karen Blixen Museum and Giraffe Centre. Explore the farmhouse of Karen Blixen, author of “Out of Africa.” Giraffe Centre is a non-profit organisation, which was founded by the late Betty and Jock Lesilie Melville in 1979 to help save the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. This is where you can see the giraffes up close as you feed them from a raised platform. On the way back, you can pass through the Bomas of Kenya cultural centre for insights into the different cultures of Kenya.

Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage

The sanctuary takes care of orphaned baby elephants and rhinos for a certain period of time before being released to the wild. This project is run by David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a non-profit charity organisation that was established in 1977 in memory of the famous naturalist David Sheldrick, the founder Warden of Tsavo East National Park.

Carnivore Restaurant

If you are staying overnight in Nairobi or have time between flights, lunch or dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant is well worthwhile. It is an eat-as-much-as-you-like restaurant, with a large variety of meats all cooked on an open braai.

Hell's Gate Game Walk

One day out walking amongst herds of zebra, antelopes, buffaloes etc, against a backdrop of soaring cliffs that are home to the Lammergeyer, an endangered vulture species, and a variety of other raptors. Tour the deep gorges and hot springs.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Full day excursion. Watch flamingoes, pelicans, fish eagles, geese, lions, zebras, rhinos, buffaloes etc.

Mount Longonot trek

One day's trek up to 3000m above sea level.
